Thomas Tuchel reveals why he chose England job over Manchester United | OneFootball

Thomas Tuchel has revealed that the “fast and straightforward” manner of England’s approach ultimately convinced him to accept the national team job ahead of the Manchester United role.

On Tuesday evening, it emerged that Tuchel had agreed a deal to succeed Gareth Southgate as England manager.

Earlier today, the Three Lions officially unveiled the German, who has put pen to paper on an 18-month contract.

Tuchel was widely mentioned to be United’s top choice to potentially replace Erik ten Hag, amidst his uncertain future at Old Trafford.

In fact, a recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Tuchel had verbally agreed to take over from Ten Hag.

However, if the Red Devils do end up sacking Ten Hag, they will now have to look elsewhere, well beyond Tuchel.

The 51-year-old was presented to the media at Wembley Stadium on Wednesday following his appointment and was asked why he chose England over United.

Tuchel replied (via The Mirror), “The idea and the way John [McDermott] and Mark [Bullingham] presented it was very fast and confidential. It was very straightforward, it was a decision for this job and not against anything else.”

“They made it clear it’s about football and that got me excited. I wasn’t sure this was the job for me because the schedule is very different. I always wanted to come back to England, that was my big goal.”

He added, “The offer came at the right time and we found a vision to share. Now I have to live up to it. I know there are some trophies and I want to help that happen.”

“It’s 18 months and then we agreed to sit together and we’ll see. I have good experience with 18 months, unfortunately sometimes. I’m working on my long-term game!”

United return to action this weekend when they host Thomas Frank’s Brentford.
