Lazio staged a late comeback at the Stadio Zini on Monday, a win that underlined three themes, Tijjani Noslin’s versatility, Nicolo Rovella’s timely return and Nuno Tavares’s revival under Maurizio Sarri.
According to The Laziali, Cremonese were chasing points to cut the gap to Lecce, while Lazio’s focus is on securing Europe via next week’s Coppa Italia final. Even so, the visitors’ calmer recent form told as they overturned the deficit in the closing minutes.
Noslin came on for the struggling Daniel Maldini in the centre-forward role and quickly created Gustav Isaksen’s equaliser with a deft assist. After Boulaye Dia entered, Noslin shifted to the left and combined with the Senegalese to net a superb late winner.
Sarri had earlier struggled to pinpoint Noslin’s best position, and he has since conceded he may have misread the Dutchman. Noslin has proved decisive across the front line, arguably Lazio’s standout centre-forward this season and among their most effective wingers.
Injury-hit Lazio have suffered more than 50 setbacks, and Rovella’s groin problem and collarbone fracture were especially damaging, depriving them of creativity for much of the campaign. His second-half return lifted the side, even if he is short of peak fitness. Sarri will be desperate to build minutes, as a fit Rovella could be a secret weapon against Inter Milan in the Coppa Italia final.
Tavares delivered again, with Sarri crediting a carrot-and-stick approach for the left-back’s resurgence. Whether he remains beyond July is unclear, but the improvement of players like Tavares suggests Sarri’s imprint will endure regardless of silverware.
