Barcelona’s UEFA Champions League clash with PSG was one of the most eagerly awaited matches of the group stage.
Both teams, known for their fast and attacking style of play, promised a thrilling contest.
Unfortunately for Hansi Flick and his side, a dip in intensity during the second half proved decisive, and Barcelona fell 1-2 to the French giants.
From the first whistle, the match was clearly a battle of pressure. Barcelona looked to press high, while PSG aimed to counter with their own intensity.
In the opening stages, Barça dominated possession and set the tempo, but as the game progressed, PSG gradually took control.
Flick, alongside Luis Enrique, looked to exploit the wings as a tactical solution. Lamine Yamal caused trouble down the right, while Achraf Hakimi was constantly involved on Gerard Martin’s flank.
These wing plays stood out, but several incidents during the match went largely unnoticed. Here are three of them.
The drama started well before kickoff. Hours before the game, hundreds of Barcelona supporters gathered near the entrance where team buses arrive.
The turnout was remarkable, even surpassing some El Clasico crowds.
Fans chanted against PSG, Luis Figo, and Ousmane Dembele, while also celebrating their own legends with the iconic “Messi, Messi” chants, a reminder that Lionel Messi remains a permanent idol of Barça, despite his current ties to Paris.
After the buses arrived, tensions escalated. Bottles were thrown, police intervened, and a few arrests were made.
Thankfully, order was eventually restored, and the focus shifted from the surrounding areas of the Olympic Stadium to the stands, where the real spectacle awaited.
Despite the challenges, Barcelona fans were determined to make their presence felt. Even with the match at Montjuïc, thousands ascended to the Lluis Companys Stadium to cheer on their team.
According to the club, 50,207 spectators attended, slightly exceeding the crowd of 50,103 who witnessed the Barça-Real Sociedad LaLiga clash. This attendance marked one of the highest entries.
Only three previous matches recorded more fans, notably, the Champions League group match against Bayern (50,312), the first leg of the Champions League semi-finals against Inter (50,314), and the El Clasico against Real Madrid on matchday 35 (50,319).
Clearly, Barcelona’s fanbase continues to provide unwavering support, making the home atmosphere electric.
Even with all the excitement, not all guests were welcomed warmly. A notable presence in the VIP area was former Barcelona star Luis Figo.
For many Barça supporters, Figo remains a controversial figure. The atmosphere before the game was lively, aided by pre-match music and a live performance by DJ Siria.
But as the players entered the pitch, attention shifted to the VIP section.
Fans immediately spotted Figo and reminded everyone of the past with chants of “That Portuguese guy…” and even “Judas” echoing from nearby.
It was a clear message that, for many, Figo’s legacy at Barcelona is still a sore spot.
