Tiaguinho has re-entered Grêmio’s midfield plans after featuring in the win at Riestra in Argentina. According to Globo.com, injuries to Arthur and Nardoni have opened a route to minutes against Flamengo on Sunday in the Brasileirão.
He debuted under Luís Castro in the Gauchão, then lost place after the Gre-Nal defeat and the home draw with Juventude on 25 and 31 January, coming off at half-time in both. He next appeared on one March late in the Gauchão final first leg, a 1-0 win, then joined Brazil under-20 friendlies in São Paulo.
Recently he went six matches unused and nine out of the squad before Tuesday’s outing in Buenos Aires. On Wednesday’s day off he worked on conditioning and strength with Tetê, supported by agency staff.
Images of that session were posted on social media by their representative, Pablo Bueno.
In Argentina Grêmio started with Leo Pérez as the sole holder and Willian improvised in midfield. There is no indication that pairing will be repeated.
Pérez was withdrawn at half-time for Noriega, and Willian later made way for Tiaguinho. Other options are Dodi, who travelled to Buenos Aires but was not on the bench, and Zortéa, who was not selected.
Assistant Vitor Severino has outlined a development plan for Tiaguinho, saying that shielding a youngster can sometimes mean limiting minutes. He said this after the draw with Athletico, when he was unused.
Arthur and Nardoni have muscular injuries, with returns planned after 17 and 23 May respectively.
