Celtic has released details on the squad for the Europa League campaign, and it has made for some interesting reading with new recruits Jahmai Simpson–Pusey, Hayato Inamura, Callum Osmand, and Shin Yamada all omitted from the list.
This has led to much tongue wagging amongst the support, with everyone asking the same questions, why? And is it another indication of the club’s meddling in the recruitment process?
You can’t blame anyone for thinking something is very strange here as it does seem rather odd that Brendan Rodgers would leave out players that have just been brought to the club over the summer.

Jahmai Simpson – Pusey for example was brought in from Manchester City on a year’s loan, and you’d imagine that those in charge at the Etihad would be expecting him to experience regular first team football at a high level.
Callum Osmand was also highly regarded and was expected to make a big impression when he signed from Fulham. Yet he’s nowhere near the European squad.
Shin Yamada was another curious admission. The Japanese striker was part of the squad for Sundays draw at Ibrox and looked impressive in his cameo from the bench, with it looking even more stranger when you consider that Johnny Kenny, the man left out of Sunday’s squad,, was named in the Euro squad despite not bing involved at Ibrox.

The omission of Hayto Inamura isn’t really a surprise as it’s well known that the manager reckons he needs a bit more experience, but all the same it’s not a good look that players all signed in the summer transfer window are now seen as surplus to requirements when it comes to the European front.
It certainly looks to me that Brendan is being undermined by those above him, and the omission of these four players is an indication of that.
Just an Ordinary Bhoy
Or maybe Brendan himself is the one making his own point by discarding the ‘club signings’ to show his ow frustrations at the way that the Celtic Board failed to bring in the quality signings required, especially a strikers to replace both Kyogo and Adam Idah who have been sold this year with no replacements brought in by the cash rich, ambition poor Celtic custodians.
