Big things were expected of the two newly-promoted teams this season, but, despite finishing 19 points below Blues in the previous campaign, it’s Wrexham who have done more this term.

Blues’ recent struggles have put the spotlight on the future of Chris Davies, but he will have been delighted with the way his side played against the Red Dragons, with goals from Carlos Vicente and Christoph Klarer sealing a well-deserved victory.

Whilst Birmingham vs Wrexham isn’t a rivalry, the duo were competing for the League One title at one stage last season, and there is extra noise around the fixture to the respective figures involved at each club.

With Tom Brady a minority owner at Blues, and Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac co-owners at Wrexham, this has been dubbed the ‘Hollywood derby’ by some.

And, Brady couldn’t resist a dig at the Wrexham duo, as he took to his Instagram Story, to express his delight at Birmingham’s victory.

Big W. It’s always more fun to beat your friends,” Brady put out, along with a winking face, as well as tagging the Wrexham duo.

The NFL legend regularly follows Birmingham, which includes visits to the Second City, and he will no doubt be disappointed at how this campaign has played out, with Blues set for a mid-table finish.

Birmingham City showed their quality in win over Wrexham

This was a positive performance from Blues, and it’s no surprise that Brady took the chance to send a message to the Wrexham co-owners.

It has been highlighted in the respective documentaries of both clubs that they all have a good relationship, and, having beaten Wrexham to the title last season, they have picked up four points against them in the two games.

However, the Welsh side have undoubtedly had the better season, as even though they are now likely to fall short in their quest to reach the top six, they will certainly be above Blues come the final day.

So, it will be interesting to see what Brady and the key decision makers do at St. Andrew’s this summer.

Many feel Davies has underachieved when you look at the quality he has to pick from, as they really would’ve hoped to be in the mix for a play-off place.

That class was evident against Wrexham, in what was a complete display. There was a good balance to the XI, they barely gave up a chance of note, and there could have been no complaints if they had won by a bigger margin.

As for Wrexham, as outlined above, that defeat has left them in a very difficult position in terms of reaching the play-offs, and their past two performances suggests they may have run out of steam at the wrong time.

Yet, there’s no doubt that they’re a club on the rise, and Phil Parkinson still won’t be giving up on reaching the top six, but he will be demanding a major improvement against Stoke City on Saturday.
