Two goals from Jay Stansfield and a rocket from new signing Tomoki Iwata proved to be the difference on the night, after Jack Marriott had put the visitors 1-0 up just three minutes in.

Kyrstian Bielik's red card overshadowed a fantastic game, which saw Hollywood and sporting royalty travel to the West Midlands for one of the most highly anticipated matches in League One history.

Both Rob McElhenney and Tom Brady made the trip across the Atlantic Ocean to support their respective clubs, while David Beckham was on hand to give the lowdown to Brady about everything that was happening in the match.

Ryan Reynolds, who was not able to make it to Birmingham, was FaceTimed by his co-owner, McElhenney, to get a flavour of the atmosphere at the roaring stadium.

Despite being a minority shareholder at Blues, football is a fairly new game for NFL legend Brady.

He joined on board last August, taking the reins as the chairman of an advisory board that was created on his arrival.

He has been seen at countless matches at St. Andrew's @ Knighthead Park already, but Monday night was perhaps the biggest that he has watched since his involvement at the club began 13 months ago.

Sat next to Beckham, the 47-year-old was given a first-hand insight by one of England's greatest ever players into how the game truly works, and also how to get involved in the chants.

Brady sent a message of thanks to the Manchester United and Real Madrid legend on his Instagram story after the full-time whistle that read: "What a night in BIRMINGHAM💙.

"Thanks for teaching me how to sing at a football match @davidbeckham.

"Can't repeat most of what was said 😂."

Birmingham City could hold the advantage now in League One promotion battle

Monday evening was not just a big game for the stars away from the pitch to be seen at, but was in fact a huge moment early in the race for promotion in League One.

Heading into the match, Wrexham were still unbeaten, and cruising quite nicely at the top of the league after five matches. Nevertheless, the turnaround from Birmingham has proven to be the first blow to Phil Parkinson's side, and although they are still leading the way, Blues do have a game in hand on them.

Chris Davies has managed to bring the good times back to the blue half of the second city quicker than some might have imagined. The team are still unbeaten in League One, and have dropped points just once this season, in their opening game against Reading.

Their next three matches are incredibly important, coming up against Rotherham United, Peteborough United and Huddersfield Town in succession. If they can make their way through this triple-header of potential promotion rivals unscathed, then the signs will look very good for Birmingham.
