Tomás Araújo will miss Portugal’s World Cup Group K match against Uzbekistan in Houston on Tuesday as he continues to struggle with a fitness issue.
The Benfica centre-back skipped the final training session before the 18:00 kick-off and will not be available for Roberto Martínez’s selection, according to Glorioso 1904. Portugal are chasing their first win of the tournament.
Araújo started the 1-1 draw with the Democratic Republic of the Congo on matchday one but has not trained fully with the squad since.
In contrast, Rúben Dias worked without restrictions during the 15 minutes open to the media. The Manchester City defender missed the opener but could now return for a game viewed as pivotal to qualification.
Nuno Mendes also trained normally, though the coaching staff may manage his workload and could even rest him on Tuesday.
Portuguese Football Federation president Pedro Proença watched the session, and the squad are due to travel to Houston at 19:30 mainland Portugal time to complete preparations.
