Record writes that Tomás Araújo will miss Benfica’s match against Moreirense after suffering a calf muscle problem in the Sporting v Benfica derby. The centre-back had only just returned after more than two weeks out.
He was withdrawn in the 78th minute, replaced by António Silva, and left with discomfort. The situation raised alarms at the Estádio da Luz over a possible relapse.
On Monday, 20 April, José Mourinho gave the squad a day off, allowing Benfica’s medical staff to assess several players, including Araújo, Andreas Schjelderup and Gianluca Prestianni, the latter two showing heavy fatigue.
Preparations for the home fixture with Moreirense began on Tuesday, 21 April.
This season Araújo, valued at 28 million euros, has made 37 appearances for Benfica, 21 in Liga Portugal Betclic, nine in the Liga dos Campeões, four in the Taça de Portugal, two in the Taça da Liga and one in the Liga Portugal Meu Super. He has played 2,615 minutes, scoring one goal and providing one assist.
