Cavancara who featured as a substitute for Jablonec against Celtic back in 2021 in the UEFA Europa league play off rounds, hasn’t had the best of times at the Bundesliga side since his €10 million move from Sparta Prague back in 2023, and had an equally as disappointing time at Turkish Superlig side Antalyaspor, but his form in the Czech league should fill us with optimism.
The 25 year old Czech international who can also operate on the right hand side of the attack offers a huge physical presence at 6ft 3in, and is technically good on the ball, and should be someone who is capable of excelling in a Martin O’Neill side, especially with the opportunities we create on a regular basis.

Cavancara found the net 34 times in 85 appearances in the top flight of his native Czech Republic, with Jablonec and Sparta Prague, and as the Czech league is of a similar if not better standard than our own top flight, then it bodes well for his chances of success in Scotland.
He’s also had the added benefit of playing in one of the top leagues in Europe in the Bundesliga, and even though he only mustered seven goals in 53 appearances, it shows he has the quality to compete in such a competitive environment.

Cavancara is the boost we all need as we get set to battle in a bid to defend our title, if it does indeed get over the line. With the lack of a clinical striker being something of an Achilles heel in the past few months, it’s a monumental plus in our pursuit of success.
Let’s hope he hits the ground running, starting at Tynecastle on Sunday.
Hopefully we have further new signings to write about today.
