Newcastle United getting off to the worst possible start.

After only four minutes Jacob Murphy caught in possession in a central area by Danso, the ball breaking for Johnson and after advancing to the edge of the box his shot took a deflection off Burn that gave Pope no chance.

Gradually Newcastle got themselves together and grew as the half went on, Gordon excellent in a central role but with license to roam.

The winger/striker got in down the right and his cutback saw Joelinton just unable to make proper contact with the goal at his mercy.

A few minutes later and this time Murphy getting in down the right, his cutback seeing Gordon with a quality low strike that was heading into the bottom corner, only for a great save to turn it around the post.

On 20 minutes, a long ball saw Targett easily outpaced by Tel, thankfully Nick Pope holding his nerve and doing really well to save a one one with the striker.

Five minutes later and Newcastle increasingly controlling the play, Bruno whipping in a quality cross that Joelinton should have scored from, only to head wide of the post with a free header eight yards out.

On 40 minutes Newcastle deservedly level, an exhilarating move starting in United’s half saw half a dozen exchange passes as play swept forward. Gordon eventually releasing Barnes and a trademark finish. Cutting in from the left and giving the keeper no chance, his shot going in off the post.

Two minutes later and Barnes almost giving United the lead, again cutting in from the left and into the box, only a last ditch Porro block preventing a goal.

A minute later and as usual Romero working himself, getting into a bit of handbags with Bruno.

A bad start to the match but Eddie Howe will be very happy with what he saw after that, especially the movement up front.

Second half

United carrying on where they had left off.

Five minutes after the break and a Targett cross from the left was put just wide by Gordon who was under pressure as he met.

On 52 minutes a heart in mouth moment as a freak slip saw Bruno left in pain on the ground, thankfully after treatment he was ok, phew!

United straight back on the attack and this time Murphy’s cross volleyed home by Gordon, but clearly offside.

On the hour mark Gordon replaced by Osula and Livramento on for Targett. Gordon looking excellent today.

Star of the show Son was then subbed after an underwhelming display, that substitution taking five minutes or so as he shook hands with countless people, on and off the pitch, as the match announcer gave a running commentary.

On 65 minutes Murphy seeing his low shot blocked in a crowded penalty area.

A drinks break followed by Joelinton dispossessed in midfield but Pope a comfortable save from Bergvall.

Richarlison played through and another class save from the Newcastle keeper when one on one, saving with his foot. Then the offside flag raised anyway.

A brilliant moment then following, as Lewis Hall made his playing return, on for Trippier with 15 minutes left. Seung-soo-Park also coming on, for Jacob Murphy.

Our new teenage signing has certainly got a touch of pace! Spurs players not enjoying his tenacity when closing down and chasing down passes.

Into the closing stages and this time James Maddison picking up a freak injury no contact with anybody and ended up stretchered off.

Great defending late on when Tino Livarmento one on one at the back only one winner!

Trickery on left from Seung-soo Park, then feeding Bruno on the edge of the box and his effort over the bar.

A feisty game at times and the referee bottling it when Bissouma should have got a second yellow.

The match ending in a 1-1 draw.

An entertaining and at times fractious match, especially where Bruno, Richarlison, Joelinton and Romero were concerned!

Newcastle United played well and deserved to win, main thing of course the performance and Eddie Howe will be happy for sure on that front and seemingly no injuries.

Gordon was easily man of the match.

Whilst Schar, Burn, Pope, Bruno and Barnes all impressed, Murphy had his moments as well.
