Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed the signing of England midfielder Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid.
The 25-year-old joins Spurs in a €40 million deal and has signed a five-and-a-half-year contract running until 2031.
Aston Villa had also held discussions over a move but wanted an initial loan with an option to buy, while Atletico prioritised a permanent sale.
“I’m so happy and excited to be here, taking the next step in my career at an amazing club,” Gallagher said on the completion of his move.
“I wanted to be a Spurs player, and thankfully, the club felt the same. It was very easy, it happened very quickly, and I’m ready to get on the pitch.
“I know how great the fans are, I’m really happy to be a part of it here and want to create special moments and memories together.”
Gallagher returns to England after 17 months in LaLiga, having joined Atletico from Chelsea for €42m in 2024.
He made 136 Premier League appearances across spells with West Bromwich Albion, Crystal Palace and Chelsea.
Gallagher established himself as an industrious, box-to-box midfielder with aggressive pressing, stamina, and a knack for arriving in the penalty area.
He will make his debut for his new employers when they host West Ham United on Saturday.
Thomas Frank’s men need a victory after suffering consecutive defeats and failing to win any of their last four outings across all competitions.
