In a recent report, journalist Dean Jones mentioned that Tottenham Hotspur are hoping to land Brighton and Hove Albion defender Jan Paul van Hecke. It has been stated that Spurs are showing interest in recruiting the Dutch centre-back next year.
Van Hecke is having another solid campaign at the English club after he produced a string of impressive displays for them in the Premier League. The 25-year-old has scored three goals in 16 appearances for Brighton this season across all competitions.
The Dutch talent has been a rock at the back for the Seagulls as he has made 22 tackles, 23 blocks, 13 interceptions and 71 clearances in the Premier League. He has even distributed possession accurately from inside his half, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 86% in the English top tier (stats via fbref.com).
His current contract at the American Express Community Stadium will run out in the summer of 2027, which could open the door for Spurs to sign him on the cheap at the end of this season.

Van Hecke is a good tackler of the ball and can scan the danger well to secure possession back for his side inside his half. He usually puts his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the offensive and is proficient at playing his way out from the back.
Standing at 1.89m, the Dutch sensation is a strong presence in the air as well. He has already proven his worth in the Premier League and won’t take much time to settle into life at Tottenham.
We can expect Van Hecke to bring more quality to Spurs boss Thomas Frank’s midfield. He has what it takes to fight for a regular first-team place at the North London club and could help Tottenham compete across all fronts in the coming seasons.
At 25, Van Hecke has his peak years ahead of him, which makes him a decent choice for Spurs to consider this winter or at the end of this campaign. He might even help the London giants challenge for a major trophy in the future.
