In a recent report, Fichajes revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a move for Atletico Madrid talent Pablo Barrios. It has been stated that Spurs are ready to launch a £70m offer to acquire the services of the Spanish midfielder. You can have a look at how much this £70m is worth in this inflation adjusted SIP calculator.

Barrios’ Impressive Form In La Liga

The 22-year-old has enjoyed a decent campaign at the Madrid club so far and deserves credit for producing a run of eye-catching displays for them at the centre of the park. Barrios has scored three goals and grabbed one assist in 25 appearances for Los Blancos this season across multiple competitions.

The Spanish sensation has offered solid protection for his teammates at the back and deserves credit for making 19 tackles, 14 blocks, 21 interceptions and 12 clearances in La Liga. He has even distributed the ball relatively well based on his pass completion rate of 85.5% in the Spanish first division (stats via fbref.com).

His current contract at the Wanda Metropolitano will expire in the summer of 2030. Hence, it won’t be easy for Spurs to sign him on the cheap next year.

Is Barrios A Good Fit For Tottenham Hotspur?

Barrios is a good tackler of the ball and can scan the danger well to secure the ball back for his team inside his half. He usually clears the danger when required and is a good passer of the ball as well.

The Spaniard can even contribute by scoring and creating a handful of important goals for his team. However, the jury is still out on whether he can adapt to the physicality and high intensity of the Premier League if Spurs manage to bring him on board next year.

We can expect Barrios to bring more quality and depth to Tottenham’s midfield department. He is more than capable of fighting for a regular starting role at the North London club in the coming years.

At 22, the best is yet to come from Barrios as long as he continues to improve with each season. Therefore, he would be an excellent fit for Tottenham’s needs in the long run. However, Spurs have to give him some time to adjust to life in England before they can get the best out of the player.
