Tottenham Hotspur are in pole position to sign Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson this summer provided they remain in the Premier League, according to The Athletic.
The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium club held talks over bringing the Reds hero from the Anfield club in the winter transfer window. However, Liverpool were not keen on letting Robertson leave during the season.
The Scotland international would be leaving the Merseyside club when his contract expires at the end of the season, with Spurs favourites to sign him on a free transfer.
Robertson could become the first signing of Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi in the summer transfer window.
The two-time Premier League winner brings more than enough to the Spurs dressing room and signing such a veteran would be huge for the North London club.
The 32-year-old Liverpool star has also won the UEFA Champions League once and reached the final of the elite European competition on two other occasions.
He has played 270 league games for the Reds and could be perfect for Tottenham.
Spurs are facing a relegation battle and could be in the bottom-three at the end of today if West Ham United beat Wolverhampton Wanderers this evening.
The Lilywhites are currently 17th in the Premier League table after 31 games and will be desperate to pick up all three points at the Stadium of Light on Sunday when they take on Sunderland.
They take on Brighton & Hove Albion afterwards before games against Wolves, Aston Villa, Leeds United, Chelsea and Everton.
Spurs need to win most of those games to boost their chances of staying up and signing quality players like Robertson in the summer.
De Zerbi will fancy his chances of getting the job done and keeping Tottenham in the Premier League at the end of the season.
The Italian will remain with the club even if they get relegated but Robertson will not be joining them if that happens.
