Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly set to reignite their interest in England international Marcus Rashford should Aston Villa opt against making his loan move from Manchester United permanent this summer. According to Football Transfers, Spurs are closely monitoring the situation, having previously considered a move during the January window.
Since his January switch to Aston Villa, Rashford has enjoyed something of a resurgence. The 27-year-old forward has impressed under Unai Emery, prompting Villa to consider activating the €46.6 million (£40m) option to sign him permanently. His performances have caught the eye of several top-flight clubs, and Tottenham are keen to be at the front of the queue.

As Football Transfers revealed, “Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Marcus Rashford this summer if Aston Villa decide against purchasing him on a permanent deal.” The report adds that Rashford “has enjoyed an impressive loan spell at Aston Villa” and could become one of the most sought-after names in the upcoming window.
Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou’s influence is clear. While the club held interest in Rashford in January, the Australian tactician instead pursued a short-term move for Bayern Munich youngster Mathys Tel. Though that loan never materialised, it demonstrated Postecoglou’s intent to shape a dynamic, youthful attack.
That plan could now shift focus back to Rashford. With Heung-min Son approaching the twilight of his Spurs career, there is a pressing need to identify his long-term successor. Rashford—versatile, experienced, and homegrown—fits the profile.
The ripple effects of Tottenham’s summer business may extend beyond Rashford. Football Transfers reports that “James Maddison could depart Tottenham if a suitable offer arrives this summer.” Despite an impressive return of 11 goals and nine assists, the England midfielder has started just 20 Premier League matches in the 2024/25 campaign. At 28, and with a contract until 2028, Spurs may consider cashing in.

Meanwhile, Manchester City’s Jack Grealish—whose role at the Etihad is reportedly under scrutiny—is also being considered by Spurs. Southampton’s Tyler Dibling is another name linked to the right wing slot, suggesting that Postecoglou is planning a wide-ranging reshuffle of his attacking options.
Tottenham’s long-standing search for attacking reinforcements has often ended in frustration. Rashford, despite his mixed form at Manchester United, remains a player of rare ability. His pace, directness, and ability to play across the front line would add another dimension to Spurs’ attack.
If Villa decline to make the deal permanent—and if United are willing to do business with a top-six rival—Rashford’s move to North London could be one of the defining storylines of the summer. Given Spurs’ historical struggles to land marquee domestic talents, it would also be a signal of intent under Postecoglou’s leadership.
From a Tottenham supporter’s perspective, this is exactly the kind of transfer link to get excited about. Marcus Rashford might not have reached the heights expected at Manchester United, but his raw ability is undeniable. At just 27, his best years could very well lie ahead—especially under a manager like Postecoglou, who thrives when working with players in need of a fresh start.
Spurs fans have been crying out for a player who can replicate what Heung-min Son brings—both in terms of work rate and cutting edge. Rashford could be that man. He’s Premier League-proven, hungry to prove doubters wrong, and if he comes in alongside someone like Grealish or with Dibling as a long-term project, the attacking future at Tottenham looks thrilling.
More than just numbers, it’s about personality and purpose. Rashford has shown he can be a leader on and off the pitch. In North London, with a defined role and consistent minutes, he could flourish. And if Maddison’s departure paves the way financially, it might be a sacrifice worth making.
Spurs can’t afford to let this opportunity pass. For fans, Rashford in a Tottenham shirt isn’t just a fantasy—it feels like a bold, believable step forward.
