Newcastle defeat proves final straw with Spurs in danger of relegation
Tottenham have sacked Thomas Frank.
The Dane has been under pressure for weeks and Tuesday’s 2-1 home defeat to Newcastle proved to be the final straw.
Spurs chief executive Vinai Venkatesham and sporting director Johan Lange recommended to the board late on Tuesday night that Frank was sacked.
It was decided a change is needed with Spurs just five points above the relegation zone after eight Premier League games without a win.

A Spurs statement said: “The club has taken the decision to make a change in the men’s head coach position and Thomas Frank will leave today.
“Thomas was appointed in June 2025, and we have been determined to give him the time and support needed to build for the future together.
“However, results and performances have led the board to conclude that a change at this point in the season is necessary.
“Throughout his time at the club, Thomas has conducted himself with unwavering commitment, giving everything in his efforts to move the club forward. We would like to thank him for his contribution and wish him every success in the future.”
Frank signed a deal until 2028 when he replaced Ange Postecoglou last summer but he leaves after just eight months in the job.
Newcastle condemned Spurs to their seventh home defeat in 13 games and pushed them closer to trouble.
After relegation rivals Leeds had fought back from 2-0 down to draw with Chelsea, only a last-gasp Benjamin Sesko equaliser for Manchester United at West Ham prevented Spurs from being closer to the relegation zone.
Frank said after the game that he was convinced he would not be sacked, imploring with the club board to “not lose their heads”.
But, with Spurs sleepwalking towards trouble and a 12-day gap until the north London derby with Arsenal, Frank has been sacked.
The Dane departs with Spurs down in 16th place in the Premier League and out of both domestic cup competitions.
Frank survived a 2-1 home defeat to rivals West Ham, and then a 2-2 draw at Burnley, but a decision to dismiss has been made with the Hammers closing the gap.
