Report: Spurs Ready for Key Premier League Clash with West Ham

Spurs head into their Premier League meeting with West Ham at the London Stadium with new faces set to feature. Manager Thomas Frank confirmed that Xavi Simons and Randal Kolo Muani are in contention after completing moves before the transfer deadline.

The focus is particularly on Simons, who joined for £51.8 million from RB Leipzig. The Dutch midfielder has already been in action for his national team during the international break, a factor that Frank believes gives him an advantage for immediate involvement.

“Both of them are looking good,” Frank explained. “Both of them are definitely in contention to be ready for the squad. Xavi, for natural reasons, is further down the line. He just started the first game for Holland and played a few games for Leipzig.”

With attacking options stretched, the Spurs manager is considering deploying Simons in a central role. That would push existing midfielders into a selection battle, leaving one of Rodrigo Bentancur or Joao Palhinha potentially out of the side.

Fitness issues shaping Spurs approach

Injuries continue to affect Spurs’ preparations. Dominic Solanke remains unavailable due to an ankle problem. Frank gave an update, saying the striker was “not too far away”, although the game will come too soon for his return. Richarlison, fresh from international duty with Brazil, is expected to lead the line again.

Fitness levels also impact Kolo Muani, who has not played competitive football since the Club World Cup. “Definitely in terms of Randal, it’s been a while since he’s played. Last time was in the Club World Cup. Hasn’t trained really with PSG. So he is not as fit as Xavi, but he looks good,” Frank noted.

Selection dilemma in defence

Spurs also face decisions at full-back. Djed Spence has impressed recently, earning his first England cap during the international break, yet Destiny Udogie’s return to fitness gives Frank another option. Balancing form and fitness remains key to how Spurs will line up.

The predicted XI suggests Spurs will set up in a 4-2-3-1 formation. Guglielmo Vicario is expected in goal, with Pedro Porro, Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Spence forming the back line. The midfield could include Palhinha and Pape Matar Sarr, with Mohammed Kudus, Simons and Brennan Johnson supporting Richarlison in attack.

West Ham eyeing London bragging rights

West Ham will be determined to test Spurs’ reshaped side, especially with home advantage. Meetings between these clubs rarely lack intensity, and with both teams aiming for European places, the stakes are high.

Kick-off is set for 5.30pm BST on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at the London Stadium. Coverage will be available live on Sky Sports, ensuring fans will not miss what promises to be another fiercely contested Premier League clash.
