Defenders were withdrawn hurt at Turf Moor

Thomas Frank has allayed concerns that Cristian Romero and Pedro Porro picked up injuries during Tottenham’s 2-2 draw with Burnley.

Porro was replaced at half time by left-back Destiny Udogie, while Romero, who scored a 90th-minute equaliser, came off deep into stoppage time.

Romero was seen crouched at the side of the pitch as Spurs saw out the final few moments of the second half, but Frank downplayed fears that the centre-half was injured.

Asked whether Porro and Romero had been withdrawn due to injury, Frank said the latter had suffered cramp, while Porro was taken off to manage his load, having started Spurs’ last 14 games in all competitions.

“Romero was cramping in the end,” Frank said post-match.

“Pedro was physical, [having] played a lot of minutes, we had more running power with Djed [Spence] to the right and then Destiny in [at left-back].

Spurs’ defenders came to the rescue again as Romero scored for the third game running to spare Frank’s blushes.

Romero and Micky van de Ven, who opened the scoring at Turf Moor, have scored a combined 13 goals in all competitions, with only Richarlison netting more goals for Spurs this season.

Dominic Solanke provided a presence up top as he made his first league start of the season, but spurned a presentable headed opportunity after the break.

Spurs are in the market for attacking reinforcements, and Frank admitted that he needs to see more from his players in the final third.

“It's fantastic, two defenders scoring again. That is very positive,” Frank continued.

“But of course, you need more from your offensive players. They know it.

“They work very hard on it. It's not that they don't want. But of course we need that.

“The day we add that together, plus defending a tiny bit better, then we will win.”
