Tottenham Hotspur are willing to trigger Eberechi Eze’s release clause, but they’ll have to overcome a huge stumbling block in their bid to sign him this summer.

According to The Sun, Premier League champions Manchester City are also willing to trigger the playmaker’s clause, which complicates Tottenham’s chances of signing him.

Eze was a standout performer for Crystal Palace last season, forming a highly effective attacking trio alongside Michael Olise and Jean-Philippe Mateta.

Palace have already lost Olise to Bundesliga heavyweights Bayern Munich and would ideally prefer to keep Eze for at least one more season.

However, they’ll be powerless to stop his exit if one of the top clubs triggers his release clause, and Tottenham and Man City are now circling with keen interest.

Spurs are determined to bolster their attacking options this summer after narrowly missing out on Champions League football last season, and Eze is a key target.

Eze would be a game-changing signing for Spurs

The Wheels began to fall off for Ange Postecoglou’s side when key players like James Maddison picked up injuries.

Considering the England international is Tottenham’s primary creator, it’s unsurprising that his absence exposed the team’s lack of depth in the creative midfield department.

Adding a dynamic playmaker like Eze would ease the creative burden on Maddison and help Spurs bridge the gap on the Premier League’s elite.

Eze was in phenomenal form for Palace last term, notching 11 goals and four assists in 27 Premier League games.

He also created seven big chances and averaged 2.0 key passes per match. He is of the calibre of players Tottenham need to bolster their chances of competing for silverware.

In addition to his impressive numbers, Eze’s nimble footwork and ability to glide past defenders effortlessly makes him a constant threat in the final third.

While going head to head with Man City is a daunting prospect, especially without Champions League football as a cushion, Spurs must pull out all the stops to lure the exciting forward to north London.
