The January transfer window is approaching the halfway point as Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham all work on deals to bolster their respective squads for the second part of the season. The big news from Tuesday was saw Spurs hijack Aston Villa for Conor Gallagher, who is expected to finalise his £34million move from Atletico Madrid and become Thomas Franks’s second signing of the month, after Souza.

Man United have confirmed the appointment of Michael Carrick as their head coach until the end of the season and he is said to be targeting a midfielder amid links to Elliot Anderson and Marcos Llorente. Elsewhere, Arsenal have been handed an update regarding their pursuit of Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi and reportedly have joined Chelsea in the race for Real Madrid superstar Vinicius Jr.
