Gunners step up striker search as Blues get boost

Arsenal are stepping up their striker search as they look to strengthen before the end of the January window. Benjamin Sesko is their top target, and the RB Leipzig man has reportedly already told the Gunners he wants to join, but a move this month will prove hard to pull off. Victor Osimhen, Viktor Gyokeres and Igor Jesus are also of interest and Matheus Cunha could be back on the table after a new contract agreement has stalled.

Chelsea are set to sign Mamadou Sarr from sister club Strasbourg and are set for talks with Juventus over Dusan Vlahovic. Tottenham are desperate for reinforcements, particularly in attack and Liam Delapy is now being linked. Manchester City have announced the signing of Lens centre-back Abdukodir Khusanov. Maresca explains Veiga absence

Chelsea defender Renato Veiga is the subject of transfer interest from Borussia Dortmund and Juventus this month, and was absent from the Blues squad yesterday.

However, manager Enzo Maresca insisted this was not the reason the Portuguese was left out against Wolves.

“No, no,” he said. “It was a technical decision. We preferred, for instance, Ty [Tyrique George]. The reason was just for that.”

Arsenal weigh up Thuram bid

Arsenal have turned to Marcus Thuram as their striker search continues.

The forward has again impressed at Inter Milan tihs season with 13 goals and three assists in 20 Serie A appearances so far this season.

That form has attracted the Gunners, who can expected to pay at least £60million for the forward according to TVPlay.

A move in January will likely prove tough to complete, though, with Inter not ready to entertain a sale for such an important player.

Liverpool in new contract tussle

The familiar topic of expiring contracts for key players was back on the agenda for Liverpool this week.

However, it was not Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold or Mohamed Salah in the headlines but rather Ibrahima Konate after he revealed he had been offered a new deal by Liverpool but had not yet signed it.

The Frenchman’s current deal expires in 2026, and the centre-back confirmed today that the club have put forward an extension.

However, asked if he was close to signing it, Konate responded: “That’s another conversation!”

Chelsea have edge over Arsenal in Vlahovic chase

Chelsea hope Renato Veiga’s proposed move to Juventus will give them an edge in the race to sign Arsenal target Dusan Vlahovic.

The Times report that the Blues have been alerted to the availability of the Serbian, who has long been of interest to Arsenal.

Chelsea are deep in talks with Juve over a deal for Renato Veiga and are expected to discuss Vlahovic at the same time.

With Christopher Nkunku struggling to get minutes and Nicolas Jackson against Wolves again proving wasteful in attack, Chelsea want a new forward.

Vlahovic has struggled at Juve, who have this month signed Randal Kolo Muani on loan from PSG.

Aston VIlla annoyed by West Ham's £57m bid for Duran

West Ham have seen their £57m bid for Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran rejected.

The Athletic report that Villa have no plans to sell the 21-year-old, and are instead rather irked by the offer having told all clubs that Duran is not for sale.

Duran has a contract running through to 2030, so Villa are in a strong position despite significant interest.

Monaco ready Rashford offer

Marcus Rashford has been offered a fresh escape route from Manchester United.

Reports emerged yesterday that, actually, the striker would like to remain at Old Trafford after fielding interest from the likes of Borussia Dortmund and AC Milan.

Ruben Amorim is not similarly ready for a reunion, and now The Sun report that Monaco have thrown their hat into the ring.

In news which will please United, the Ligue 1 side are also reportedly willing to cover most of Rashford’s £325,000-a-week wages.

Arsenal may also have been offered new hope over Matheus Cunha.

The Wolves forward is rumoured to be another prominent transfer target for Mikel Arteta as he seeks to bolster his depleted attacking ranks.

Cunha has multiple other suitors after an impressive season at Molineux, where it is hoped he will stay put and sign a new contract.

Fabrizio Romano says that Arsenal have had the Brazilian on their shortlist for months, with Wolves still having to sort the final details on an extension having verbally agreed it two weeks ago.

The left-back has caught the eye of several clubs across the continent thanks to his form in Serie A with Lecce, most notably Liverpool and Tottenham.

However, it is United who are trying to win the race for Dorgu, with The Athletic reporting that talks are underway with the Denmark international.
