As clubs across Europe continue to strengthen ahead of the 2025/26 campaign, another eventful week in the summer transfer window is bound to unfold.
Liverpool’s Luis Díaz is set to depart Anfield in a move that could pave way for Alexander Isak to join Arne Slot’s side, whilst Newcastle United are actively searching for a centre-forward should the Swedish international leave the North East.
Elsewhere, Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City are seeking to add to the £1.5bn spent so far by Premier League clubs this summer.
FromTheSpot has selected the top ten ongoing transfer news stories.
Bayern Munich have agreed a €75m [£65.6m] deal for coveted winger Luis Díaz. The Colombian will join Vincent Kompany’s side on a four year deal.
Despite Liverpool wanting to keep Díaz, insisting he was not for sale when they rejected Bayern’s initial offer of €67.5m [£58.6m] earlier this summer, the forward insisted on a move away from Anfield.
Liverpool made two attempts to agree a new contract with the player but a gap in demands and offers meant no conclusion could be met.
The Reds were only willing to sell Díaz for his full market value – the deal sees Liverpool make a €26m profit after paying Porto a total of €49m. Richard Hughes has now generated £190m from player sales since joining as the club’s Sporting Director last summer.
Díaz was crucial in securing Liverpool’s long-awaited 20th title, netting 13 goals in the Premier League, and will be fondly remembered for his contributions by the Anfield faithful. The versatile forward will bolster the German champions’ front line which already features the likes of Harry Kane and Michael Olise.
Newcastle striker Alexander Isak has declared he wants to leave St James’ Park, with the player requesting not to join the club’s pre-season tour to Asia.
According to the club, the Swedish international missed the 4-0 loss to Celtic last week due to a minor thigh injury, but it was in fact a preference of Isak not to take part amid his uncertain future.
The Magpies have been intent on retaining Isak with an improved contract and have maintained the stance that their talisman is not for sale. No agreement has been found so far but the club remain in a strong position as his existing terms run until June 2028.
Liverpool have long admired Isak, who scored 27 goals in all competitions last season, and have expressed their interest in doing a deal worth £120million. If Newcastle were willing to negotiate a deal for the prolific striker, it could see Liverpool’s summer spending spree surpass an astonishing £350m.
Newcastle are eyeing up potential suitors in anticipation of Isak’s exit, with RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Šeško and Brentford’s Yoane Wissa on their list of targets.
With Isak keen on an exit, Newcastle have lined up 22-year-old Benjamin Šeško as a potential successor.
The Slovenian striker has been on the radar of Eddie Howe’s side since 2022, when they tried to sign him from RB Salzburg before eventually securing Isak for a club-record fee.
Šeško is one of the most sought after strikers in European football and has been subject to interest from Arsenal and Manchester United after scoring 21 goals in all competitions last season.
The Magpies have already missed out on their search for a second striker this summer, with Liam Delap and Hugo Ekitike moving to Chelsea and Liverpool respectively. A deal for Yoane Wissa has also stalled and the increased likelihood of Isak departing means Newcastle would be under pressure to get Šeško and potentially one more striker through the door.
Having had a £25m offer rejected by Brentford, Newcastle’s pursuit of Yoane Wissa appears to have hit a stumbling block.
Wissa is pushing for a move to the North East, with aspirations to play in the UEFA Champions League. The DR Congo international left his team’s pre-season base in Portugal last week to hold talks with Brentford’s hierarchy in attempt to resolve a situation that has frustrated the 28-year-old.
Brentford are adamant on keeping Wissa, having already lost Bryan Mbeumo to Manchester United. The striker scored 19 goals in the Premier League last season and the Bees value him above £50m.
Saudi club NEOM FC have also made an approach for Wissa, but his priority is to force a move to St James’ Park.
Chelsea are nearing the completion of a deal to sign Jorrel Hato from Ajax.
Personal terms have already been agreed with the 19-year-old and the clubs are working on a a compromised price above €40m [£34.8m]. The versatile Netherlands defender can play either as a centre-back or as a left-back, and has also been of interest to Arsenal and Liverpool.
Meanwhile, the Blues are also consulting with RB Leipzig over the transfer of Xavi Simons. The 22-year-old is one of Europe’s most exciting prospects and is in advanced talks to join Enzo Maresca’s side.
Simons would be the latest young attacking talent to sign for Chelsea this summer, joining the likes of Liam Delap, João Pedro and Jamie Gittens.
João Félix will join his international teammate Cristiano Ronaldo in Saudi Arabia as Al-Nassr have agreed a deal to sign the mercurial forward from Chelsea.
The Blues set an asking price of €50m and the Saudi Pro League club have met their request – the deal includes an initial fee of €30m [£26.2m] with add-ons taking the valuation to €50m.
Félix signed for Chelsea on loan in 2023 before making a permanent move in 2024 from Atletico Madrid in a £44.5m deal.
The 25-year-old failed to make an impact at Stamford Bridge, making just three appearances before spending the end of last season on loan at AC Milan.
Manchester City have agreed a £27m deal to re-sign James Trafford from Burnley.
The player will sign a five-year deal (with the option of a further 12 months) after Pep Guardiola’s side matched Newcastle United’s offer; Burnley regard the sale as a record fee for a British goalkeeper.
After joining City’s academy at the age of 12 in 2015, Trafford made the permanent move to Burnley in 2023. Following relegation from the Premier League, the English goalkeeper was instrumental in Burnley’s promotion last season where he kept a record 29 clean sheets and conceded only 16 goals across the season.
Trafford is likely to contest with Ederson for the No 1 spot, whilst Stefan Ortega is expected to leave the club.
After confirming the signing of Viktor Gyökeres from Sporting CP and Noni Madueke from Chelsea, Arsenal are returning their focus to Eberechi Eze.
The club remain in contact with Eze’s camp, though club to club talks with Crystal Palace have yet to begin. Currently, a transfer would be dependent on outgoings from the Emirates.
The 27-year-old has a release clause worth over £60m, but the Gunners would hope to seal the England international’s talents for a fee below that price.
Eze spearheaded Crystal Palace to a historic FA Cup triumph last season and Oliver Glasner is likely to have the attacker in his plans as the Eagles prepare for an inaugural run in Europe.
One potential player on his way out of Arsenal is Reiss Nelson. Fulham are in advanced talks to re-sign the 25-year-old following a loan spell at Craven Cottage last season.
The clubs are discussing whether the transfer would be permanent or an initial loan with the option to buy; if it were the latter, Arsenal would prefer an obligation to purchase at the conclusion.
Nelson made 12 appearances in all competitions for Marco Silva’s side last season. He is contracted to Arsenal until the summer of 2027 (with an option to extend for a further 12 months) but Arsenal are looking to raise funds for further signings in order to comply with financial regulations.
Everton are in advanced talks to sign Malick Fofana from Olympique Lyon.
The 20-year-old winger is well admired across Europe and the signing would be seen as a huge coup for the Toffees, who are targeting two wingers this summer.
Fofana made nine goal contributions in the league last season and a further eight in the UEFA Europa League, where Lyon made it to the quarter-finals before losing to Manchester United in dramatic fashion.
David Moyes’ side are also set to sign Adam Aznou from Bayern Munich in a €12m deal. The left-back is set to undergo his medical and join the side on their tour of the United States.
