Rightfully so, after all, Alexander-Arnold is yet to commit to a new long-term contract with the Reds.

And with Real Madrid waiting in pursuit, even with Alexander-Arnold's very close bond to the club, it's not guaranteed that he will stay at Anfield beyond this season.

Although the hope is that he will stay at the club and that Liverpool will be able to find a resolution to extend his current deal.

However, even if Alexander-Arnold stays there will be a major looming question mark hanging over his head.

A question mark he may have answered for Arne Slot in his latest international appearance for England.

Why Trent Alexander-Arnold answered a major Liverpool question about his future

Going forward, Liverpool are in a little bit of a tricky position when it comes to the long-term future of the right-back role.

Alexander-Arnold is a world-class full-back. However, behind him, Conor Bradley is developing into an elite talent who is ready to step-up and become on par with Alexander-Arnold.

But if that situation arises in the future, the question mark will be how will Slot be able to accommodate both of them in the starting XI?

For a lot of people the answer would have been shifting Alexander-Arnold into a midfield role. But the truth is that is no the answer. Alexander-Arnold is not a midfielder - he is a full-back.

The real solution was answered by Alexander-Arnold against Finland in England's 3-1 victory in the Nations League on Sunday.

For the first time in his career, Alexander-Arnold played as a left-back, and he didn't disappoint in the role. In fact he played there very much as if he had been playing on the left flank for years.

England lost none of his impact by fielding him on the left. All the Three Lions' attacks still flowed through him.

And on top of that he managed to get himself on the scoresheet with a brilliant free-kick goal as well.

What does this mean for Liverpool's future?

For now, there's a very competent Andy Robertson in the left-back role at Liverpool. However, he is 30 years old now and definitely heading towards the twilight of his career.

Sooner or later Liverpool will have to replace the Scotsman. And what better way to replace him than with Alexander-Arnold?

Bradley will then come in to play on the right and Slot's headache will be solved.

In Finland on Sunday night, Alexander-Arnold might have just given a hint about how Liverpool's future line-up could look.

And the prospect is certainly an exciting one.
