Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold has confidently stated his belief that he can one day win the Ballon d’Or.

The England international has always set lofty goals for himself; he once said that he didn’t want to just be the best right-back in the world, but to revolutionise the position.

The 26-year-old has certainly shown a level of creativity at full-back that we’ve rarely if ever seen from another player, and has already achieved incredible things during his Anfield career.

But his ambitions clearly have no limit. In his latest interview Alexander-Arnold revealed what he wants his legacy in the game to be after he eventually retires.

Trent Alexander-Arnold: ‘I can win the Ballon d’or’

“I want to be a football legend, someone who changes the game,” he told Sky Sports. “I have a saying: ‘don’t just play the game, change the game.’ I strive for the legacy of being regarded as perhaps the greatest right-back in football history.”

He added: “It’s only when you retire that you can look back and say you’ve given everything to the sport.

“Titles and medals are nice, but what truly matters is pushing yourself to reach your utmost potential.”

Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior and Rodri of Manchester City are the favourites to take home the Ballon d’or award at Monday’s ceremony, but Alexander-Arnold has no doubts he could someday be on that stage receiving the much coveted golden ball.

“I genuinely believe I can win the Ballon d’Or. I aim to be the first full-back to achieve this feat.”
