A revelation of the Ligue 2 season, Troyes’ Mathys Detourbet (18) is attracting a lot of interest. Already reported to be on AS Monaco’s radar last winter, the young forward revealed in an interview with Onze Mondial that he had, at the same time, turned down an approach from the Saudi club Al-Hilal.
“My father and my agent were contacted and received this offer. They felt obliged to tell me about it because, financially speaking, it was a very attractive offer,” explained the young rising star. But it wasn’t enough to persuade him to leave France for the Middle East, as he makes no secret of his dream of making his mark on the European stage. And of competing in the premier competition.
“Ever since the interview started, I’ve been telling you that I just want to play football, that I love the game. This story will show you that. When they mentioned it to me, I took out my phone, played the Champions League anthem and said to my dad: ‘Dad, I want us to enjoy this music together.’ That’s when they understood my answer,” Detourbet said with a smile.
Having established himself as an undisputed first-team regular under Stéphane Dumont, the French Under-20 international (three appearances, one goal) has started 23 of his 32 appearances for ESTAC this season. An impressive campaign for Detourbet, who has scored three goals and provided seven assists across all competitions, and whose contract ties him to the Aube-based club until 2028.
