Manchester City have been sensationally linked with a move for Newcastle United and England international, Anthony Gordon over the course of the weekend.

Officials within the Etihad Stadium are understood to be on the search for new recruits in various positions across Pep Guardiola’s squad ahead of the forthcoming campaign, with their main focus being the central midfield ranks.

Ongoing uncertainty surrounding the future of Kevin De Bruyne beyond this summer and perhaps the 2025 summer transfer window remains, as well as concerns and awareness from within the club that Manchester City do not have sufficient cover for Rodrigo.

As such, the Premier League champions have been linked with interest in numerous potential solutions from across the European game, simultaneously remaining open to recruitment in the wide attacking roles.

Despite the imminent arrival of Brazil international Savio following his exit from Copa America last week, Manchester City continue to be linked with other names in the wide-winger roles, most recently a name close to home in the Premier League.

The weekend saw Manchester City tied with a transfer interest in Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon, potentially competing with Premier League title rivals Liverpool for the signature of the highly-rated forward.

However, according to the information of The Newcastle Chronicle’s Lee Ryder, the weekend’s transfer links between City and England winger Gordon have been dismissed as “untrue” by Newcastle United themselves.

Anthony Gordon has been the subject of intense speculation of transfer interest from Liverpool after an understanding surfaced from various quarters that the player had been offered in a swap deal for Merseyside defender Jarell Quansah last month.

Since then, there has been very little in the way of further developments and progress on the future of Anthony Gordon, who no doubt remains focussed on the task in hand over in Germany, with England into the semi-finals of the 2024 European Championships.

The Netherlands are the next opponents for Gareth Southgate’s men, who feature a star-studded squad alongside defensive strength from Premier League rearguard experts in Manchester City’s Nathan Ake and Liverpool’s Virgil Van Dijk.
