Bundesliga football club TSG Hoffenheim have signed Christopher Lenz. The 29-year-old defender was still lacing his boots for league rivals RB Leipzig up until June this year but has been without a club since his contract with the Saxony outfit came to an end and has now joined TSG with immediate effect.
"Christopher is an experienced Bundesliga player who can play both in the left central defender position and on the left flank," said Frank Kramer, the interim Head of Sport at TSG, adding: "He will therefore complement our squad in these positions and offer an alternative in light of the high number of matches this season as well as the possibility of injury-enforced absences. On top of that, he will be an excellent fit for our team on a human level."
Christopher Lenz started his career in the Hertha BSC youth set-up and has spent the last nine years playing in the Bundesliga and the 2. Bundesliga for RB Leipzig, Eintracht Frankfurt, Union Berlin and Holstein Kiel. For those clubs, he made 98 appearances in the Bundesliga (10 assists), 23 in the 2. Bundesliga (2 assists), played 14 matches in the DFB-Pokal (1 goal, 1 assist), and featured seven times and two times in the Champions League and Europa League respectively.
Lenz helped Kiel achieve promotion to the second division in 2017, before making the leap to the Bundesliga with Union two years later. In 2022, the defender became a Europa League champion with Eintracht Frankfurt.
