Despite heavy exit speculation, Hakan Calhanoglu will stay at Inter Milan for at least another season.

Speaking to Turkish outlet Hurriyet via FCInter1908, Calhanoglu’s father, Huseyin, put the recent transfer rumors to bed.

Fenerbahce and Galatasaray were reportedly keen to lure the 31-year-old to Istanbul during the summer transfer window.

However, Inter’s €30 million asking price proved too steep for both Super Lig heavyweights.

Therefore, Galatasaray dropped their interest in Hakan Calhanoglu and signed Ilkay Gundogan instead.

Yet, with the transfer window in Turkey yet to close, there was still a chance for the Turk to return to his homeland.

Nothing of the sort is going to happen.

Indeed, Calhanoglu plans to stay at San Siro and prove his worth to new manager Cristian Chivu.

Furthermore, the Romanian views the Nerazzurri stalwart as a crucial component in his midfield set-up.

Galatasaray boss Okan Buruk recently confirmed the club’s interest in Calhanoglu.

“Hakan is a player I’ve always felt connected to, someone I value,” he stated. “A player I once called up to the youth national team. I didn’t have direct contact, but our directors did.

“However, in the last days, Inter made it clear they didn’t want to let him go and shut the door on a transfer.

“That’s how it ended. He’s a very important player.

“Had they sold Hakan, Inter would’ve had to spend at least €40–45 million to replace him

“The reason Calhanoglu wasn’t sold is that it was the final day of the transfer window, and Inter didn’t want to let him leave.

“I don’t think that will change. We also wanted Hakan.

“He would’ve made huge sacrifices to join Galatasaray, but Inter didn’t want to let him go.”

Calhanoglu’s father, Huseyin, now delivered a fresh update on his son’s immediate future.

“Only God knows,” he claimed. “Hakan is happy with his club at the moment and will continue at Inter.

“He already has a contract for another two years. A transfer is out of the question.”
