CaughtOffside have reported a significant development that could shape Liverpool’s summer transfer activity. Luis Diaz, a special figure in the Reds’ recent title-winning campaign, is at the centre of a brewing storm, with Saudi heavyweights Al Nassr and Al Hilal both preparing €85 million bids. European interest is also simmering, with Barcelona and Atletico Madrid quietly monitoring the situation.
For a player who just delivered 17 goals and five assists in a Premier League-winning season, speculation over his future comes at an uncomfortable time for Arne Slot. The Dutchman, having guided Liverpool to domestic glory in his first year, is now faced with the unenviable task of fending off financial giants and keeping the core of his team intact.

CaughtOffside’s sources confirm that Luis Diaz “has not yet made a decision on his future,” although both Al Nassr and Al Hilal are said to be “serious about trying to sign him this summer.” While La Liga’s giants are said to “appreciate Diaz,” they are only in a monitoring phase — and Barcelona’s well-documented financial issues might hinder their ability to make a compelling offer.
Importantly, Liverpool are not idle in this situation. The report notes that “some positive talks have already taken place between Slot and the player,” signalling that the club are actively working to tie down Diaz with a new contract.

This lines up with earlier comments from Fabrizio Romano who stated, “Barcelona have also Luis Diaz on the list, but it depends on financial request by Liverpool.”
With Trent Alexander-Arnold set for a blockbuster move to Real Madrid, another exit of this magnitude would be a bitter pill to swallow. Diaz has become a vital piece in Liverpool’s attacking puzzle, combining flair, work rate and end-product — a blend not easily replicated in the market, even with €85m.
CaughtOffside put it plainly: “Liverpool are already set to lose Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid, so another big-name departure doesn’t seem ideal for the club.”
Given the inevitable adjustment period for any new signings, especially those arriving from different leagues or continents, losing another key man could destabilise the momentum Slot worked hard to build.
There is a business case for selling Diaz. At 28, this summer may represent Liverpool’s last chance to cash in on him for a premium fee. With possible incoming players like Florian Wirtz being considered, competition in the attacking midfield and wide areas will only increase.
As noted, “he’ll be less nailed down for a regular starting spot next season if someone like Florian Wirtz comes in.”

But the commercial benefits must be weighed against the on-pitch risks. With Diaz contributing directly to 22 goals in the Premier League this season, letting him go would leave a significant gap — one that may not be immediately filled, regardless of how shrewd Liverpool’s recruitment may be.
In the end, Arne Slot may be Liverpool’s best asset in retaining Diaz. The early signs suggest the manager is proactive, not reactive. His conversations with the Colombian could prove pivotal, especially as the player assesses both his role in the squad and his long-term aspirations.
Whether Diaz chooses legacy over money, or familiarity over novelty, will soon become clear. But one thing is certain — Liverpool must act fast and decisively.
From a Liverpool fan’s perspective, this news is deeply unsettling. Just days removed from celebrating a Premier League title, to already be fending off major offers for one of our brightest talents feels like a gut punch.
Luis Diaz may not be the most consistent player in world football, but what he brings in energy, flair and passion is irreplaceable. He embodies the spirit of this team, and we’ve seen first-hand how valuable he is in big matches. Seventeen goals and five assists aren’t just numbers — they’re turning points in our title charge.
€85 million is a tempting figure on paper. But who replaces Diaz? And how quickly can they adapt? Even if Wirtz comes in, he’s more of a central playmaker. You can’t simply slot him into Diaz’s role and expect the same outcome.
There’s also the emotional angle. We’ve just said goodbye to Jurgen Klopp — and now we’re potentially waving off Trent and Diaz? It feels like too much change, too soon. Arne Slot deserves the chance to build on this season with a stable squad, not be forced into a rebuild immediately.
We appreciate that football is a business, but this is also a club built on loyalty and passion. Losing Diaz now would feel like selling a part of our identity, not just a player.
