Two people died after falls into the Seine in Paris during celebrations of PSG’s Champions League title at the weekend, the Paris prosecutor’s office said on Tuesday.
On Saturday, around 21:00 in the fifth arrondissement, police were alerted to a person in cardiac arrest in the river. Witnesses said the individual had jumped deliberately and then sank. The fire brigade’s river unit recovered the victim, who was rushed to hospital in a critical condition after treatment from Samu Hôtel-Dieu.
On Tuesday, the prosecutor’s office was notified of the death of the victim, who was born in Rwanda in 1997. An investigation to establish the cause of death has been assigned to police in the fifth and sixth arrondissements.
On Sunday morning, a man was found in the Seine near Pont Louis-Philippe. He was reported to have fallen into the water near Pont-au-Change.
He could not be revived despite treatment from Samu. A separate inquiry into the cause of death has been opened.
