Two years later, it’s another meeting between Inter Milan and AC Milan in the Supercoppa Italiana final with revenge in the air.
This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.
Inter and AC Milan will meet in the Supercoppa Italiana final on Monday.
The Nerazzurri booked their place in the final with a win over Atalanta. Meanwhile, AC Milan came back to beat Juventus in the other semifinal.
The Milan derby is certainly a suitable fixture for the Supercoppa final.
And it’s not the first time that the two city rivals have faced off in the Supercoppa.
In January of 2023, Inter and Milan had also taken each other on in the Supercoppa final.
Heading into that match, Inter had a real desire for revenge.
That came after the Nerazzurri had lost to the Rossoneri in the first league meeting, which had been a 3-2 Derby thriller.
It’s the same this time around. Inter suffered the most bitter result of their season so far against Milan, who defied the form book and inflicted a convincing 2-1 defeat on their city rivals.
So Inter will certainly want to show that they’ve put that result totally in the past.
The last time Inter were in this kind of mood, they responded with a 3-0 win over Milan in the Supercoppa final.
Moreover, that proved to be the first of six straight derby wins, a sequence which included victories in both legs of a Champions League semifinal tie.
In September, Milan finally snapped that streak and reasserted themselves in the derby.
But now Inter will be hungry to do what they did two years ago.
