After sanctioning the joint arrivals of Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui in August, Manchester United are already plotting how they can do business with Bayern Munich again next summer.

Numerous reputable outlets have relayed the Red Devils’ interest in three players: Alphonso Davies, Leroy Sane and Leon Goretzka, with Davies and Sane both out of contract in June 2025.

The Canadian, in particular, would bolster a position in dire need of strengthening at fullback. United chiefs have seemingly finally accepted that they simply cannot rely on Luke Shaw long-term anymore.

He last featured for the club nine months ago in a Premier League win over Luton Town but did manage to reach full fitness in time to play England’s last three Euro 2024 fixtures. However, upon his return to Carrington for pre-season, he sustained yet another injury and has been sidelined ever since.

Davies could price United out of a move with financial demands

As such, the ‘unbelievable’ Davies poses as a world-class candidate to fill the position, and, given that he could be available for nothing, it’s certainly a no-brainer from United’s end to test their luck – even if his longtime admirers Real Madrid are thought to be leading the race for his signature.

United may be deterred by the player’s reported demands, though. GiveMeSport claims Davies wants a signing-on fee of £10 million if he were to make the move to Manchester while also expecting around £240,000 per week in wages.

Such a salary would see him enter the club’s list of highest-earners at fifth place – behind Mason Mount’s £240,000 per week and above Antony’s £195,000. Casemiro (£350,000), Bruno Fernandes (£300,000) and Marcus Rashford (£300,000) occupy the top three spots, according to Capology.

Should Bayern make a lucrative proposal to keep him at the Allianz, he could well opt to stay put, having already spent five years with the Bavarian outfit.
