There were goals aplenty this evening at the MHP Arena in Baden-Württemberg as VfB Stuttgart hosted FC Augsburg in a game that ended in a 3-2 win for the hosts. Deniz Undav played a vital role scoring two, of which one proved to be the game-winning goal.

This fixture didn't lack drama as former Stuttgart man Fabian Rieder made it 1-0 inside 8 minutes. Kade and Claude-Maurice couldn't get the better of Alexander Nübel, but the rebound fell kindly for the Swiss midfielder to drive it into the bottom corner.

Sebastian Hoeneß' side hit back ten minutes later when a VAR review spotted a foul by Keven Schlotterbeck on Zagadou. Up stepped Maxi Mittelstädt - ice running though his veins - to send Finn Dahmen the wrong way from the resulting penalty kick.

A vital save from Dahmen to keep Assignon out proved to be the catalyst for Augsburg to regain the lead. Han-Noah Massengo put in a fierce tackle on Karazor to dislodge the ball and drive towards the target before sliding a shot beneath the sprawling Nübel.

Still, there was room for a VfB rebuttal before the interval. This time, Bilal El Khannouss put in the hard work to hassle Giannoulis and set up Deniz Undav who had just enough power head past Dahmen. The 27-year-old got a glove to it but the ball has already crossed the line.

The second-half proved to play out in a more settled manner although the unaware Badredine Boaunani got in the way of a goal-bound effort from Mittelstädt. There was little to discuss leading up to the hour as FCA brought on Jeff Gouweleeuw and Samuel Essende.

Tempers flared on the touchline momentarily when Assignon shoved Giannoulis over which resulted in a booking for he and Hoeneß. Tiago Tomas became VfB's first substitution with Chris Führich and Nicolas Nartey introuduced for the last 15 minutes which would soon prove fruitful.

Essende spurned a guilt-edged chance when Kade created space for the striker who ultimately blazed over. Stuttgart's fortunes spiked when Führich and Stiller combined to feed Undav. The striker's 80th-minute effort seemed to deceive Dahmen who cut a frustrated figure as they trailed 3-2 and never recovered.
