Under-20 midfielder taken off with knee pain, doubt for Corinthians

On the afternoon of this Wednesday (1), Corinthians hosted Fortaleza at Estádio Alfredo Schürig, Fazendinha, for the fourth round of the first phase of the Brazilian Under-20 Championship, and ended up losing 1-0. The result caused the Filhos do Terrão to drop to third place in the national tournament – seven points earned, nine goals scored, and four conceded.

In addition to the defeat, Timãozinho’s coaching staff may have picked up a headache for the rest of the season. This is because, in the 29th minute of the first half, 18-year-old midfielder Gui Amorim had to be substituted after his right leg got trapped over the body of center-back William Magiezi, who slipped during the play. Four minutes later, he left the field and was replaced by his positional rival, Luiz Eduardo.

According to what Central do Timão learned, the youngster will undergo tests this Thursday (2) to understand how serious the injury may be. It is worth noting that both the player and Corinthians believe there was no anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear. Gui Amorim, while still on the bench, had already begun treatment with an ice pack.

In 2025, Gui Amorim was the standout player of the Under-17 category, where he was the team’s top scorer with 19 goals in 35 matches. In the final stretch of last year and the beginning of this one, he took part in training sessions with the professional squad and was also registered for the 2026 Copa São Paulo. At Under-20 level, he has six matches and one goal scored. Still in the second half of last year, he signed a contract amendment – increasing his release clauses. His contract runs until mid-2027.

Besides him, defensive midfielders Luiz Gustavo Bahia and Caraguá had to be substituted at halftime, complaining of lower back pain and thigh discomfort, respectively. Both will also be re-evaluated internally. Looking to bounce back in the competition, the club from Parque São Jorge will return to the pitch next Tuesday (7), at 7 p.m. (Brasília time), at Nilton Santos, against Botafogo, for the fourth round of the first phase of the category’s Brasileirão.
