Milan superstar Rafael Leao has responded to recent criticism amid a challenging start to life under new manager Paulo Fonseca. The Portuguese boss has been at loggerheads with the 25-year-old and Theo Hernandez during his early tenure at Stadio San Siro.
However, Leao seems to be returning to his best. After racking up two assists to inspire Milan to a stunning 3-1 UEFA Champions League win at Real Madrid, he netted his first Serie A brace of the season in a 3-3 draw against Cagliari last weekend.
Despite his form resurgence, Leao remains in the media crosshairs as Milan entered November’s international break outside the European qualification spots after another disappointing result. But the Portuguese winger refuses to align with his critics.
“These criticisms don’t shake me, though. I have people in AC Milan and in the national team who help me grow. On the one hand, these criticisms help me, they motivate me to grow on the pitch even more.“
Milan must get back on the rails to avoid losing further ground on table-topping Napoli. They already lag eight points behind the Partenopei, albeit with a game in hand. Leao’s return to form will be crucial, especially with undefeated Juventus rolling into town after the break.
