Union begin matchday eight in fifth position after winning four, drawing two and losing of their seven league matches. After losing to Borussia Mönchengladbach at the end of September, Union have bounced back to claim back-to-back victories. Bo Svensson’s side got the better of Borussia Dortmund, before they recorded a 2-0 away win over Holstein Kiel last weekend.
Aljoscha Kemlein and Tom Rothe both got on the scoresheet to fire Union to their first Bundesliga away win since February. After ending an eight-game winless away league run, Die Eisernen will now return to the Stadion An der Alten Försterei, where they have been in imperious form this season. Having won all three of their home league games, Union are currently one of two teams with a 100% home record in the Bundesliga this season. They will hope to make home advantage count as they look to end a three-game winless run in head-to-head meetings with Frankfurt.
Union are unable to call upon the injured trio of Josip Juranovic, Yannic Stein and Lucas Tousart. Meanwhile, goalkeeper Frederik Rønnow is reportedly a doubt for Sunday’s home fixture.
Frankfurt are sitting just one point behind Union after winning four, drawing one and losing two of their seven league matches this season. After losing their opening game against Dortmund, die Adler went on to record four consecutive league victories before playing out an entertaining 3-3 draw against Bayern Munich.
Unfortunately for Frankfurt, their five-game unbeaten league run was brought to an end in last Saturday’s away clash against champions Bayer Leverkusen. Omar Marmoush saw his 16th-minute penalty cancelled out by Robert Andrich, before Victor Boniface scored the decisive goal in the 71st minute.
Dino Toppmöller’s side ultimately bounced back from that loss to clinch a narrow 1-0 home win in Thursday’s Europa League clash. Hugo Larsson netted a late winner against Latvian champions RFS to maintain Frankfurt’s unbeaten home record in all competitions (W3, D2). Die Adler will now head on their travels with hopes of claiming their third away win of the Bundesliga season. The visitors will have fond memories of their most recent trip to Stadion An der Alten Försterei in November 2023 when they eased to a 3-0 win thanks to a Marmoush brace and a Nacho Ferri effort.
Frankfurt midfielder Oscar Hojlund remains sidelined with an ankle injury which has kept him out of action since August.
