Manchester United star Harry Maguire has been faced with a major distraction ahead of the Newcastle United clash.

According to The Athletic, the former United skipper has been found guilty of non-serious assault and handed a suspended 15-month sentence in a retrial of his 2020 Mykonos case.

It is believed that allegations against the Englishman were heard once again in the Greek court system on Wednesday.

The 32-year-old was arrested after a fight involving his family outside a bar in Mykonos in August 2020.

The Englishman has consistently denied any wrongdoing and intends to appeal the retrial’s verdict in Greece’s Supreme Civil and Criminal Court.

Maguire is so keen on clearing his name that he has refused to settle the case despite it being dragged on for years after the retrial was postponed four times.

Initially, he was handed a 21-month suspended sentence.

Harry Maguire available against Newcastle

This development, however frustrating mentally, is not going to have any impact on Harry Maguire‘s availability against Newcastle.

The resilient central defender, who has become an integral part of Michael Carrick’s side, was replaced by Ayden Heaven in the closing stages of United’s win over Crystal Palace.

Maguire delivered a man of the match performance, but he was spotted having a word with the medical staff before heading down the tunnel, raising concerns over his fitness.

However, as per multiple reports, the England international is available to face Newcastle at St James’ Park in what would be a major boost for Carrick.

Recently, Diogo Dalot underlined Maguire’s importance to the Red Devils by claiming his teammate is “one of the best centre-backs in the league” when he is in “a good state of mind, and when he’s good physically.”
