Manchester United are on alert as the representatives of Germany head coach Julian Nagelsmann take a decisive step towards a Premier League switch.
Despite the success that Michael Carrick has overseen since temporarily replacing Ruben Amorim in the United dugout, there is still no guarantee that he will be handed the job on a permanent basis. Carrick has taken charge of 11 games, winning seven, drawing two and losing two.
Despite Monday evening’s 2-1 defeat to Leeds United, the Red Devils remain firmly on track to secure Champions League qualification. Carrick is indeed a candidate for the job, but a recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that United chiefs are having second thoughts about his suitability after the poor performance vs. Leeds.
Nagelsmann and Andoni Iraola are the other managers mentioned to be in the running for the Old Trafford hot seat.
Despite being just 38, Nagelsmann boasts extensive experience at the highest levels of competitive football. He kick-started his career at Hoffenheim before he moved to RB Leipzig, where he truly made his name by implementing a front-footed and attractive brand of football.
Bayern Munich then appointed him in 2021 and he won the Bundesliga title at the Allianz Arena. Nagelsmann is currently at the helm of the Germany national team and is set to lead Die Mannschaft at this summer’s World Cup.
There have been suggestions that United have held early talks with Nagelsmann’s camp but according to TEAMtalk, this is not the case.
TEAMtalk further note that intermediaries working on behalf of Nagelsmann have contacted several high-profile Premier League clubs to declare his desire to manage in England.
The news outlet claims, “While United do have a confirmed interest, we have been told that at this stage, club officials have not flown to Germany and are yet to meet with his agents or the man himself.”
“That’s despite his camp making it clear that the 38-year-old is keen to test himself in England.”
“However, United are not alone. TEAMtalk can reveal that Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City have all been approached by intermediaries and made aware of Nagelsmann’s situation.”
As it stands, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal are poised to stick with their current managers and have yet to act on Nagelsmann’s overtures. City are still waiting to discover what happens with Pep Guardiola before considering their options.
It’s understood that Nagelsmann would be very keen on the Liverpool job as pressure mounts on Arne Slot.
