Dayot Upamecano has made a clear commitment to FC Bayern – and talks about trust, Vincent Kompany, Jonathan Tah and the importance of Manuel Neuer
In an interview with Sky, Dayot Upamecano spoke about his future and his role at FC Bayern – and made a clear commitment. The central defender expressed his satisfaction with his situation in Munich and made it clear how much he appreciates the club’s trust in him
The Frenchman said of his contract extension: „I felt the trust of the club. We have a great coach and a great team. I’m very happy here. I just want to give everything for the club and the fans and repay the trust.“
The defender also had words of praise for coach Vincent Kompany: „He’s a very open coach and is always ready to talk. He does a good job and I’m very happy with him. I can always come to him if I think something didn’t go well in training. I like that he’s such an open coach.“
The 26-year-old was also impressed with new signing Jonathan Tah: „Jonathan is an experienced player because he has played in the Bundesliga for many years. He communicates with all the players on the pitch. He is international and can communicate in German, English and French. Jonathan is a very good player. I can still learn a lot from a player like him.“
Upamecano went into raptures when talking about Manuel Neuer: „Manu is a legend, not just a German legend, but a worldwide legend. I saw Manuel Neuer play when I was a kid, and now I play with him. I’m very grateful to be able to play with Manuel. It gives you confidence when you know Manuel is behind you,“ he said

He also looked ahead to the classic against Borussia Dortmund. He explained why Bayern have rarely conceded a goal recently: „Dortmund always have a great team, both up front and at the back. They are very stable this season. I always want to play to nil. The most important thing for us is the three points. If we win and keep a clean sheet, that would be perfect for me. But that’s a bonus.“
He also described a particularly emotional moment in his time at Bayern: „My first title with FC Bayern was very special. It was my first Bundesliga title and I hope that there will be many more in the future.“
