In a recent post on X, journalist Keith Downie offered an update on the future of Sunderland keeper Anthony Patterson. It is understood that the Black Cats are willing to entertain offers for the talented goalie, who is generating interest from Wolverhampton Wanderers, Wrexham and Millwall this summer.
Patterson managed to shine at times during his loan spell at Millwall last season. The 26-year-old made 16 appearances for the English outfit in the previous campaign, conceding 14 goals and securing seven clean sheets in the process across all competitions.
The English talent proved his worth as one of the best keepers in the EFL Championship. However, the jury is out on whether he can replicate his good form in the Premier League.
His current contract at his parent club, Sunderland, will run out in the summer of 2028. Hence, Regis Le Bris is under no immediate pressure to sell Patterson in this summer transfer period.

Patterson can be a safe pair of hands in between the sticks when he is playing regularly and with confidence on the field. He is a solid handler of the ball and can use his quick reflexes to make a few solid saves at the back for his team.
Standing at 1.89m, the English custodian can use his strong frame to dominate his penalty area when defending set-pieces. However, has still not made an appearance in the Premier League and is currently surplus to requirements at the Stadium of Light. Plus, there are some concerns over whether the talented custodian can maintain his good form in the Premier League.
Patterson has fallen behind Robin Roefs and Markus Ellborg in Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris’ pecking order. Thus, it is only logical for the Black Cats to cash in on him if they receive a good offer for his services this off-season.
At 26, Patterson has his peak years ahead of him, but needs to ensure regular first-team starts if he wants to improve as a keeper in the coming years. Therefore, it is only fair to the player if Sunderland let him go in this summer transfer window.
