Lazio head coach Maurizio Sarri sent a clear message to his players, who feel lonelier than ever now that they’re playing in a virtually empty stadium.

Lazio Enduring Surreal Campaign

The 67-year-old has been dealing with unfathomable circumstances since accepting an offer to return to the club for a second spell last summer. It all began with a shocking transfer ban in June that blocked the arrival of any reinforcement.

And once the ban was lifted in December, Claudio Lotito seized the opportunity to sell some of the club’s highest-valued players and replace them with younger players who were too green to the manager’s liking. To make matters even worse for Sarri, Lazio’s organized fan groups have decided to protest against the president by refusing to attend the club’s fixtures at the Stadio Olimpico.

Maurizio Sarri Urged Lazio Fans to Return to Stadio Olimpico

The Tuscan tactician initially sided with the supporters, describing their stance as ‘an act of love’, but simultaneously urged them to return to the seats and rally behind the team, especially ahead of their most important match of the season: The Coppa Italia semi-final against Atalanta (the first leg will take place in Rome on March 4).

Sarri Admits Lazio Players Are Almost Alone

Sarri and Adam Marusic’s pleas fell on deaf ears, as the fan groups insist on boycotting the cup tie. Therefore, the manager admitted to his abandoned players that is now them against everyone and everything. These were Sarri’s quotes on the training ground, as reported by Il Messaggero.

It’s just us, alone. We fight on the pitch and block out what’s happening on the outside. We can’t do anything about it; we have to accept it.

Lazio’s Next Commitments

Lazio travelled to Sardinia ahead of their Serie A contest against Cagliari on Saturday. The following weekend, they will host Torino at the Stadio Olimpico, just three days ahead of the all-important Coppa Italia clash.
