Valencia’s defeat to Real Madrid at Mestalla has deepened the malaise and anger, with supporters turning on Carlos Corberán. It has also left the team dangerously close to the relegation places.

According to Superdeporte, their margin is now tied to the postponed Rayo Vallecano v Real Oviedo fixture, called off on Saturday because the Vallecas pitch was unplayable.

When it is staged, if Rayo take all three points they would leapfrog Valencia and push them into the bottom three. Even a draw would drop Valencia to 18th, given their inferior goal difference to Rayo.

Several league rounds are likely to be played before the rearranged date, so the picture could change. Had the match gone ahead on Saturday, a Rayo win or draw would already have sent Valencia into the drop zone.

The LaLiga EA Sports game, from matchday 23, was postponed on Saturday 7 February because the Estadio de Vallecas surface did not meet minimum safety conditions after heavy rain and replanting work during the week. The decision was taken only hours before kick-off to protect the players.

No new date has yet been announced by LaLiga or either club. Ticket holders will be able to use the same tickets on the new date or request a refund within the timeframes the home club sets once the fixture is confirmed.
