Valencia begin Girona camp as Corberán omits Santamaría and Özkacar, first friendly on Saturday | OneFootball

Valencia have begun the second phase of pre-season in Girona, with four signings in tow and the first friendly set for Saturday 18. Carlos Corberán’s squad convenes at the Royalverd Training Center.

As reported by Superdeporte, the team arrived on Monday afternoon at the same venue used last summer. Corberán has Guido Rodríguez, Aliou Dieng, Justin de Haas and Ryunosuke Sato on board, alongside the renewal of Stole Dimitrievski.

Work starts on Tuesday without Baptiste Santamaría and Cenk Özkacar. Santamaría is already in Thessaloniki to sign for PAOK, while Özkacar, not in the manager’s plans, will remain in Paterna to seek a solution that suits both sides.

Though Dani Raba is not in Corberán’s plans, he is expected to travel with the group. Javi Guerra joins after a delayed return, permitted due to Spain’s pre-World Cup camp as a support player. Nine academy players also make the trip.

The Girona stage concludes on Saturday 18 with a behind closed doors outing against the champions of Angola, Atlético Petróleos de Luanda, at Royalverd, treated as another training exercise.

Valencia then return to Paterna to face CD Eldense on 22 July and CD Castellón on 25 July, both at Estadio Antonio Puchades. A second camp follows in the UK from 27 July to one August at St. George’s Park, with Derby County FC on 28 July behind closed doors and Stoke City on one August at the Bet 365 Stadium.

Pre-season ends with the Trofeu Taronja at Mestalla against Newcastle United FC on eight August at 21:00. Corberán aims to have his side ready for Betis at Mestalla on 15-16 August, although Betis are considering a postponement due to Giovani Lo Celso being in the World Cup semi-finals.
