Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti has this weekend spoken out on his plans to reshuffle his backline in the club’s upcoming fixtures.
The situation in defence in Spain’s capital has of course taken its place front and centre in the headlines over recent weeks.
This comes after the limited options at the disposal of Carlo Ancelotti and his staff were reduced ever further.
Already without all of David Alaba, Joan Martínez, Dani Carvajal and Aurélien Tchouaméni, Real Madrid saw Éder Militão and Lucas Vázquez condemned to spells on the sidelines, too.
As much means that those overseeing things at Valdebebas will be required to get creative, to make up for the lack of numbers.
Speaking to the media in his pre-match press conference ahead of Los Blancos’ trip to face Leganés on Sunday, the subject of his plans at the back was, in turn, put to the club’s headmaster.
And, in his response, Ancelotti went on to confirm that ‘something new’ was tested in training during the international break:
“Valverde at right-back and Asencio centre-back? This is an option but not the only one. We tried something new during the break.”
