Van Dijk hails Depay, says he’s raised Brasileirão’s profile

Beyond the football played and the numbers presented, Memphis Depay is a strong factor that internationalizes Corinthians and Brazilian football. In an interview with TNT Sports, the Dutch defender and captain, Virgil van Dijk, spoke about the representativeness of the number 10 and how the Brasileirão has gained audience in the country.

“I am well aware of the various club passions that exist there (Brazil). Of course, Memphis has told me several times about Corinthians. We know how big Brazilian football is,” began the defender, who has played with other Brazilians, such as goalkeeper Alisson and forward Roberto Firmino.

In the last FIFA date, Memphis Depay made history by becoming the top scorer in the history of the Netherlands. He was honored by the national team and Corinthians, but also received congratulations from his teammates.

“We have heard many stories. It's incredible that he has become the top scorer of the Netherlands. It's a huge achievement and I am very proud of him. He put the Brasileirão on the map in the Netherlands, more people are watching now”, said Van Dijk about Depay's relevance.

With a thigh edema, Corinthians' number 10 is doubtful for the club's next match in the Brasileirão. The People's Team faces Sport at Ilha do Retiro on Sunday, September 21. The match kicks off at 5:30 PM (Brasília time), with Timão eager for victory.
