Vasco da Gama have agreed to loan forward Benjamín Garré to Aris Thessaloniki as part of their 2026 squad rebuild. According to PaponaColina, the one-year deal includes an option to buy, paperwork is being exchanged and he is expected to travel in the coming days for a medical and to sign.

Garré arrived at the start of 2025 with starter status after an outlay of around R$ 15 million, but he struggled to meet expectations and gradually lost his place. Issues with rhythm, decision-making and intensity hampered his adaptation to Brazilian football.

Without a consistent run under Fábio Carille, then Fernando Diniz, he became a secondary option as others took on greater roles. Nuno Moreira, Rayan and Andrés Gómez adapted quicker and earned the coaches’ trust.

He made 21 appearances for Vasco, failed to score and recorded one assist, a return deemed below what was expected of an attacking reference.

Low output, coupled with a need to reduce the wage bill, prompted the decision to move him in the next window. The club plan to refresh the attack, targeting pace on the flanks and a more creative midfielder.

His exit opens space to act more aggressively in the market, focusing on players better suited to Brazilian football and the coaches’ model, with a more selective approach that avoids high-cost, high-risk bets. The purchase option could yield a financial return, otherwise Vasco will assess alternatives.
