Vasco will close the domestic transfer window on Friday without new signings, with additions only in July. The club has saved funds to address gaps, notably a midfielder, and is backing the squad to develop under Renato until the World Cup break.

According to Globo.com, the extra domestic period ran from 4 March to 27 March, and Vasco made no additions while mapping market opportunities.

All six signings arrived in the first window, Rojas, Saldivia, Hinestroza, Brenner, Cuiabano and Spinelli.

The board sees a midfielder as the priority to give Renato more options in midfield. After heavy early spending, budget has been set aside for the second window.

From April, Vasco face three competitions and 16 matches by end of May, eight Brasileirão games, six Copa Sudamericana group ties and two in the fifth round of the Copa do Brasil.

Some players are expected to get further chances. The standout case is Marino Hinestroza, signed with high expectations but yet to convince, benched in Renato's three games, with Nuno Moreira and Adson ahead.

Centre-back Cuesta and midfielder JP are also set to be assessed closely.

In four matches under Renato, Vasco beat Palmeiras, Fluminense and Grêmio, and drew Cruzeiro, all in the Brasileirão. They are ninth and visit Coritiba next Wednesday.
