Vasco da Gama are plotting a major squad overhaul for 2026 after finishing runners-up in the Copa do Brasil, with defeat to Corinthians the final trigger. President Pedrinho has moved quickly to trim the wage bill and open space for reinforcements, a process expected to bring multiple exits.
A meeting with head coach Fernando Diniz will decide who stays. According to PaponaColina, the initial plan is to release at least five players and the negotiable list features Tchê Tchê, Paulinho, Maurício Lemos, Victor Luís, Lucas Oliveira and Lucas Freitas, none of whom are expected to remain.
Loanees Maxime Dominguez and Juan Sforza are also not expected to have their deals extended or bought.
Jean David has already terminated his contract and left the club.
The shake-up could even reach those once seen as untouchable. Brazil’s top scorer this season, Pablo Vegetti, on 27 goals and a fans’ favourite, may be sold if a favourable offer arrives. The drastic stance reflects a bleak finish to the year, marked by near relegation and nine defeats in their last 12 games.
