Matheus França, Marino Hinestroza and Nuno Moreira led the way in Vasco’s comeback win at Audax Italiano in Chile. According to Globo.com, they were the standout performers.
Daniel Fuzato first nearly conceded after a sloppy mix-up. On five minutes, he misread a Saldivia backpass and it rolled in, the own goal given against the defender.
Paulo Henrique was erratic but sparked the reaction with a driving run before Spinelli was fouled. Marino was busy on the right and supplied the cross in the move. Lucas Piton struggled and later squandered a big chance with no goalkeeper to beat.
JP and Tchê Tchê were replaced at half-time. Ramon Rique came on to steady midfield. Midway through the second half, Spinelli won a penalty, Ortiz was sent off, and he converted from the spot.
França then hit the winner from Nuno’s pass, the Portuguese now on a three-game run of goal involvements. Lucas Freitas also played a key forward pass from deep in the build-up.
With Renato Gaúcho suspended by Conmebol, Marcelo Salles directed a rotated side. The early blunder shredded the game plan, but half-time changes lifted Vasco to turn it around. They still had to suffer late despite the extra man.
